AWS What is New – 2023-01 – S3 Default Encryption – Zero Click Feature

AWS S3 launched a new feature “zero-click” which makes SS3-SE as default encryption for every S3 object. SS3-S3 means Servier Side Encryption.

Before this feature, AWS S3 users should explicitly define encryption for the S3 bucket or encryption at the object level.

Understanding “Zero Click” S3  Default Encryptionwith an Example

Step 1(a): Create. an AWS S3 bucket

I have created a bucket as shown in the below figure

Step 1(b):  As shown below the Create bucket page has Default Encryption set to SS3 S3, which is the new change in AWS S3

Step 2(a): After creating the bucket successfully uploaded an object to the above bucket

Step 2(b): While uploading an object, you can see the object encryption set to the default SSE S3 “zero-click” new feature.

Step 3: For IT Operations purposes you can create a Cloud Trail and view the AWS S3 events in the Data Events section of the Cloud Trail you have created. Below figures show the same feature.
